The Library is pleased to host unLOCK artist John
McDavitt as he executes “Lockport by Lockport”, a mural that captures the
history of Lockport, painted in part with the assistance of community members.
Here’s your chance to connect with the city’s rich cultural history – just sign
up for a 15-minute “community paint” time during the month of June at the
Library. Call 815-552-4265 to reserve a
time. John welcomes adults, teens, and children accompanied by an adult. Families
with children should sign up for one time slot. Must be 14+ to sign up without
an adult.
Thursdays between 11 am and 1 pm.
Mondays between 1 and 3 pm
Tuesdays between 6 and 8 pm
And, Saturday, June 9th between 10 am and 12
noon.
The overarching project unLOCK: Merging Art and Industry
in
Lockport that brings John to us is made possible by a National
Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant awarded to the Gaylord Building to bring ten
local and regional artists to Lockport to execute art inspired by the city’s
rich historic assets and intimate connection with the I&M Canal National
Heritage Corridor. Selected works will be installed or performed in businesses,
historic sites, and cultural institutions throughout Downtown Lockport and will
be on public display through October connecting historic resources, landscapes
and business of the city – guiding visitors and residents through the physical
and cultural assets of Lockport.
