Event Details

WIT Book Club* is part book club and part writing workshop for tween girls ages 10-12. We spend 30 minutes discussing our current reading selection. Then we dedicate 30 minutes learning new forms and writing techniques, which is then followed by a 20 minute writing challenge. The final 40 minutes are spent reading and critiquing students' writing.

*WIT stands for "Writers In Training", and was started by Ms. Cris Mitchell and her granddaughter as a way to spend time together. It quickly expanded to include more girls, and the WIT Book Club outgrew their space.

Ms. Mitchell earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia College where she also taught fiction writing for nine years. Her poems and short stories have been published in numerous literary magazines and books. She is an author with two novels published by Doubleday. She is currently working on a children's book.
