Calaveras de azúcar or sugar skulls, are traditional decorations for Día de los Muertos. Sugar skulls represent a departed soul, had the name written on the forehead and was placed on the home ofrenda or gravestone to honor the return of a particular spirit. Sugar skull art reflects the folk art style of big happy smiles, colorful icing and sparkly tin and glittery adornments.
Instead of a sugar skull, create your own Dia de los Muertos decoration out of a paper. Included in the kit are the materials to make a 3D paper skull. Decorate with your choice of supplies such as color pencils, crayons, color paper, paint, and more.
Traditional decorations for Dia de los Muertos tend to be colorful and floral. Feel free to take your own spin on this fun 3D craft. Available at all three branches while supplies last. Pick up yours at the Adult Services desk.
Each craft kit has a coupon for a Pan de Muerto/Bread of the Dead courtesy of White Oak Library District and
Lekaroz Bakery. Pan de Muerto/Bread of the Dead coupons must be used by Monday, November 2, 2020. Lekaroz Bakery, 101 W Romeo Rd # 2, Romeoville, IL 60446, (815) 886-0365.
