Event Details

On Saturday, July 24, 1915, the city of Chicago witnessed a tragedy that took 844 lives. The S.S. Eastland was one of five boats that was destined to bring Western Electric employees and families across Lake Michigan to Michigan City, Indiana. The Eastland was docked at the Clark Street Bridge, and due to the large amount of passengers on one side of the boat, the Eastland capsized. This book, written by Chicagoan Jay Bonansinga, explores this forgotten tragedy that is part of Chicago's history.
